Guideline: Filmic contamination in control

The guideline “Filmic contamination in control” is intended for operators of parts cleaning systems, those responsible for cleaning processes, process chain managers, and users of measurement and testing technology. It is designed to facilitate quality-assured process management for these individuals. Based on the current state of the art, the Fachverband industrielle Teilereinigung e.V. (FiT) compiled practical and expert knowledge as well as user experience between 2015 and 2018 and developed the guideline “Filmic contamination in control.”

Excerpt

The cleanliness of part surfaces after pre- post- and final cleaning is an important quality characteristic in many branches of industry. But it is not always possible to exclude the presence of manufacturing-related contamination, despite the use of state-of-the-art production methods. It is therefore necessary to remove contamination from the surfaces to ensure that the parts exhibit the necessary cleanliness for the downstream manufacturing stages (e.g. joining. painting) and its final use.
Efforts undertaken in recent years have primarily addressed the issue of particulate contamination. Now, though, chemical contamination and contamination with films are perceived increasingly as adverse to quality.

FiT has recognised that the industrial parts cleaning sector requires practical recommendations for quality-assured process management in regard to contamination with films. The authors drew on available state-of-the-art technology, adding practical and expert knowledge along with user experience, to prepare this guideline entitled “Managing Filmic Contamination” between 2015 and 2018.
